Milwaukee Brewers, KC Royals Might Not Strike But May Have To Walk August 30

Sports Charter Flights Targeted by Midwest Express Flight Attendants For CHAOS™ Strikes

CHAOS™ Strike Date: Aug. 30

MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Brewers and the Kansas City Royals might not be the only ones to strike on August 30th as Midwest Express flight attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants, AFL-CIO, announce that the airline’s sports charters may be prime targets of CHAOSTM strikes, which could begin as early as August 30.

"Professional baseball is not the only ‘game in town’ with a labor dispute. We are informing prime strike targets about the serious risk of us creating CHAOS with their flights if we are forced to strike at Midwest Express,” said AFA Midwest Express Master Executive Council President Toni Phillips. “Sports charter flights are very time sensitive, and the teams we serve deserve to know ahead of time that they may need to make alternative plans if we strike after Aug. 30.”

CHAOS stands for Create Havoc Around Our SystemTM and is a strike action that allows flight attendants to control the airline’s schedule and operations.  Flight attendants may stage a mass walkout for a day or a week or strike individual flights — with no warning to management, passengers or teams.

“Super mediation” has been scheduled to begin on Aug. 28 in Washington, DC as a last attempt to reach an agreement before the Aug. 30 strike deadline. If no agreement is reached by that date, the parties are free to engage in "self-help".

The flight attendants have sent letters to Midwest Express sports charter customers, which include the Brewers, Royals, Milwaukee Bucks and Wisconsin Badgers football.  Those letters and the most recent updates on the potential for CHAOS at Midwest Express can be viewed at www.afanet.org/ME.

Midwest Express’ 465 flight attendants are joined together in AFA, the world’s largest flight attendant union. Visit us at www.afanet.org.
