Flight Attendants Protest At Houston Airport Against Knives In The Passenger
The Coalition of Flight Attendant Unions and industry stakeholders will hold a press conference Monday, May 20, 2013 at Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to continue engaging the traveling public in efforts to keep the passenger cabin free of knives that have been used as weapons. According to a recent Washington Post article “now the chatter is that the TSA may decide to put the new rules into effect over the Memorial Day weekend.”

Flight Attendants Protest At Charlotte Airport Against Knives In The Passenger Cabin
Flight Attendants will hold a press conference Thursday, May 16 at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to continue to engage the traveling public in efforts to keep the aircraft cabin free of knives that have been used as weapons. According to a recent Washington Post article “now the chatter is that the TSA may decide to put the new rules into effect over the Memorial Day weekend.” TSA officers have expressed concern not only with the dangers of allowing knives in the security checkpoints and beyond, but also noted that these new procedures would slow security lines.

Organizations Representing 400,000 On The Front Lines Of U.S. Aviation Submit Legal Petition To TSA And Homeland Security To Keep All Knives Off Planes
Lawyers for nine organizations representing 400,000 aviation professionals, passengers and law enforcement officers today filed a legal petition with Transportation Security Administrator John Pistole and copied to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano seeking to rescind plans to allow knives in the aircraft cabins for the first time since 9/11.

Delta Connection Flight Attendants at Compass Airlines Ratify First Contract On Eve Of Carrier’s Sixth Anniversary
Six years after Compass Airlines began commercial operations, Compass Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), ratified their first contract today with an overwhelming 99 percent of those participating voting in favor of the five-year agreement. The agreement, reached with the assistance of the National Mediation Board, provides immediate economic improvements as well as enhanced job security and protections. The AFA negotiating committee was able to reach an agreement after intense support and solidarity from the nearly 450 Flight Attendants.

Strike Looms Closer At US Airways Express
The reality of a strike at US Airways Express carrier Piedmont Airlines appears to be drawing closer after continued stonewalling by management throughout contract negotiations. Piedmont Airlines Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), has been working to reach an agreement that is beneficial to crewmembers and to the airline. Meanwhile, management has presented unreasonable proposals and has frequently made regressive proposals in bargaining.

TSA Delays Knives On Planes – Flight Attendants Accept Temporary Reprieve For Aviation Security
In the face of a huge backlash from Flight Attendants, nearly every other stakeholder in aviation and the public, the Transportation Security Administration today postponed its plan to allow knives on US flights starting Thursday, April 25. But the 90,000-member Flight Attendants Union Coalition, which has opposed the TSA's ill- advised plan from the start, remains resolute: No Knives on Planes Ever Again.

Flight Attendant Union Submits Congressional Testimony On Dangers of Knives In-Flight
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) today submitted official testimony for the House Transportation Security Subcommittee hearing on the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) risk based security. Today’s hearing is meant to focus on a “stakeholder’s perspective.” However, the majority members of the committee have failed to include the Flight Attendant experience on the testimony panel. Nevertheless, in addition to submitting written testimony, Flight Attendants will be there in uniform to help keep the focus on the reckless policy change to allow knives back in the aircraft cabin.

Family Of 9/11 Flight Attendant Sara Low Shocked Over TSA Policy Allowing Knives On Planes
The Flight Attendants’ Union Coalition, representing 90,000 Flight Attendants at carriers across the country, has released an open letter to TSA Administrator John Pistole from one of the 9/11 Crewmembers’ families. Mike Low, father of Sara Low who was instrumental in providing information to the authorities as her flight was hijacked and ultimately flown into the World Trade Center, is speaking out against the proposed policy change by Pistole.

Delta Connection Flight Attendants Reach Tentative Agreement For First Contract
Compass Airlines Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA), reached a tentative agreement for a first contract late last night with the assistance of the National Mediation Board. The agreement would provide double-digit pay increases on date of ratification along with an increased 401k match, schedule flexibility and a grievance procedure among other improvements. All things considered, the AFA Negotiating Committee and elected leaders are sending the agreement out for ratification with a unanimous endorsement.

AFA Coordinates Support And Resources For Flight Attendants Affected By Pinnacle Base Closure In Atlanta
When Pinnacle Airlines announced the closure of the Atlanta domicile, 180 Pinnacle Flight Attendants were affected. Understanding that many questions remain, the Association of Flight Attendants- CWA (AFA), the union for Pinnacle Flight Attendants, is coordinating with state agencies to provide local assistance to crewmembers. On March 27 and 28, AFA will hold meetings to provide an opportunity for Flight Attendants to connect with local services.

Betty Ann Ong Foundation Opposes TSA Policy Change
The Coalition of Flight Attendant Unions honors our Flight Attendant heroes from 9/11. Thirty-three Flight Attendants were killed aboard the four hijacked flights: American Flight 11, United Flight 175, American Flight 77 and United Flight 93. Flight Attendants from each of the flights relayed critical information with the earliest pieces of intelligence from that day. The first of those calls was from Betty Ann Ong, a Flight Attendant aboard American Airlines Flight 11.

On Tuesday, over 100 leaders from the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA) rallied in front of Hyatt headquarters in Chicago and delivered a letter to corporate leaders at Hyatt supporting the Hyatt boycott and demanding safer working conditions for hotel employees. Flight Attendant Union Strengthens Partnership With Department of Transportation To Fight Human Trafficking
Addressing the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) annual Board of Directors convention, U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Ray LaHood commended AFA for its collective dedication to combating human trafficking. Secretary LaHood emphasized the importance of proper training for Flight Attendants in order to identify possible victims and report potential trafficking to the authorities. AFA is among the network of partners working together with DOT and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to educate frontline transportation workers on how to help stop human trafficking.

Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendants Reach Tentative Agreement On New Aircraft Contract Terms
Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) reached a tentative agreement with management this week on contract terms that would extend to 16 new Airbus A321neo aircraft on order. Details of the agreement are currently being sent to the over 1,400 Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendants with voting scheduled for February 8 through February 27.

Flight Attendant Renews Pledge To Combat Human Trafficking In Recognition Of National Freedom Day
Marking the culmination of National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) reaffirmed its commitment to work toward ending human trafficking. Since 1942, February 1 has been commemorated as National Freedom Day, the day when President Lincoln signed the 13th amendment to end slavery.
