AFA Hurricane Sandy Preparedness, Relief & Assistance Update
ith Hurricane Sandy already bearing down on the mid-Atlantic states, AFA representatives are
working at your airline to coordinate efforts to ensure members are safe. If you are having any problems with scheduling or gaining access to safe accommodations, contact your local AFA leaders directly. As always, AFA EAP is a resource for you locally, or call the toll-free line to reach AFA EAP International at 1-800-424-2406.
Within this special edition of AFA Interactive we have provided general information on hurricane preparedness and relief, as well as information about the AFA-CWA Disaster Relief Fund. We encourage donations to the fund from all members who are not experiencing an impact from Sandy in order to be able to provide relief for members who may be in need during recovery from the storm. Details on how to give or get help are included below.
We are anticipating widespread impact from unprecedented weather conditions in some locations including hurricane-force winds extending more than 175 miles from the storm's center, rain accumulation of up to 12 inches, coastal storm surges of up to 10 feet and significant snow accumulation. States of emergency have been declared so far in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Thousands of flights have been cancelled throughout the system. If you have any questions specific to your airline, contact your local AFA leaders.

AFA Disaster Relief Fund
We know that disasters can change lives forever. While we can't stop destructive events from happening, we can, as a Union, assist our members with their recovery. AFA established the disaster relief fund after September 11th to assist our members whose lives were placed in harm's way.
The AFA Disaster Relief Fund is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization that is separate from AFA’s operating funds. This fund provides a means for AFA members to assist other members who have suffered damage, loss and relocation as a result of disaster. The fund is open for distribution once a presidential declaration for individual assistance is declared.
